Florida A&M Wins National Golf Championship Wire-to-Wire

Playing through knee pain all week, Florida A&M sophomore Sascha Robinson fired a stunning 6-under 65 in the final round to lead the Rattlers to a wire-to-wire victory at the 39th PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship.

The team never trailed once across three days of competition. They dominated the Division I field and finished 12 shots ahead of North Carolina A&T State University at The Park golf course.

For Robinson, the 6-foot-6 star who struggled with back issues all season, this win meant redemption. He hadn't won a single tournament all year after claiming two victories as a freshman.

"My knee was aching pretty much the whole tournament," Robinson said after his victory. "The year didn't go the way I wanted, so it's great to win this week."

Robinson was the only player to shoot all three rounds in the 60s, finishing with scores of 67, 69, and 65. He played the par-5 holes in 7-under for the week, showcasing the talent that made him a standout freshman.

Coach Mike Rice, who won this same championship as a player in 2000, called it the team's national championship. This marked Florida A&M's third title after previous wins in 2000 and 2024.

"This tournament means a lot, especially to me, being one that I got a chance to play in and win my senior year," Rice said. "It's our national championship, no question."

The victory came after a disappointing conference tournament loss pushed the team to grind harder in preparation. That dedication showed as the Rattlers led by seven shots after each of the first two rounds before closing with a dominant 7-under team performance.

The PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship creates pathways for underrepresented students to enter golf careers while celebrating historically Black colleges and universities. Florida A&M's victory shines a spotlight on the talent emerging from these programs and inspires the next generation of diverse golfers.

The championship atmosphere matched professional events, giving these student-athletes experience competing at the highest level. For many, these opportunities open doors to careers in the golf industry beyond just playing.
