Flower Sales Raise $500K for Youth Charities Since 2019
A flower breeding company turned garden beauty into half a million dollars for charities over seven years. Their latest donation helps teens facing family hardships afford college.
When you buy flowers for your garden, you probably don't think about changing lives. But one flower variety has quietly raised nearly half a million dollars for charities since 2019.
PanAmerican Seed's Beacon Impatiens program just delivered its latest donation to Roots for Youth, a Canadian organization that provides scholarships for young people who've experienced family hardships. The funds came from flower seed sales, T-shirt purchases, and community fundraising throughout the 2026 growing season.
The presentation happened at Bradford Greenhouses' 33rd Annual Charity Golf Tournament in Ontario. Representatives handed over a check that will help teenagers pursue college degrees and vocational training they otherwise couldn't afford.
"We are extremely grateful to Beacon Impatiens, PanAmerican Seed, and everyone who helped make this donation possible," says Len Ferragine, Director and President of Roots for Youth. He and his team have watched their scholarships open doors for young people trying to build better futures despite tough circumstances.

The Beacon Impatiens "Beacon Shines The Light" program works simply. Every year, the company selects a different charity and donates a portion of sales from their shade-loving flowers. Gardeners get beautiful plants for their yards, and worthy causes get meaningful financial support.
The Ripple Effect
Since launching in 2019, the program proves that everyday purchases can create extraordinary change. Gardeners across North America have unknowingly contributed to nearly half a million dollars in charitable giving just by choosing one flower variety over another.
Sarah Makiejus, Global Product Manager for PanAmerican Seed, says watching the flowers raise both awareness and funds ranks among the best parts of her job. The plants bring double joy: beauty in gardens and real help for people in need.
Roots for Youth has served as the primary focus of the Bradford Greenhouses Family Trust since 2018. The organization specifically targets young adults and teens whose family situations made education seem out of reach.
The company plans to announce a new charity partner soon for the 2027 sales season. Seven years in, the program shows no signs of slowing down, proving that small choices in garden centers can bloom into life-changing opportunities.
