France's Delon Wins Women's Amateur After 5-Year Comeback

Five years after back surgery nearly ended her golf career, Valentine Delon stood victorious at one of the sport's most historic venues with a championship trophy in her hands.

The 21-year-old French student defeated Spain's Andrea Revuelta 3&1 in the 123rd Women's Amateur Championship final at Scotland's legendary Muirfield course. Strong winds gusted across the links throughout the 36-hole match, but Delon maintained her lead from start to finish.

"Since I'm playing golf again, I just want to show everyone that even if something happens in your life, everything is possible," Delon said after her win. She's the first French champion since Céline Boutier lifted the trophy in 2015.

The victory came from someone ranked just 66th in the world when the tournament began. Delon fought through five tough matches to reach the final, never trailing in her last three rounds despite fierce competition.

Her opponent Revuelta, ranked fourth globally, mounted several comebacks during the final. She erased a two-hole deficit in the morning round with back-to-back birdies and later wiped out a three-hole gap in the afternoon. But each time Delon responded with steady play, hitting crucial putts when it mattered most.

"She made like eight-footer, eight-footer and kept going," Revuelta said admiringly. "She was an amazing player today."
