Fred Richard Wins First U.S. Gymnastics Championship

Fred Richard just added "national champion" to his growing list of accomplishments, claiming his first U.S. men's gymnastics all-around title in Phoenix with a winning score of 170.015 points.

The 19-year-old Olympic and World medalist faced fierce competition from teenage rising star Danila Leykin and veteran Shane Wiskus. While Leykin grabbed an early lead on Saturday, Richard's steady excellence across all six events proved unstoppable.

Richard's victory carries historic weight. He becomes only the second Black man to win the U.S. all-around title, joining John Orozco who achieved the feat in 2012.

The championship unfolded like a thrilling chess match over two days of competition. Leykin started Saturday strong with a spectacular high bar routine, temporarily seizing the lead. But the young gymnast stumbled on floor exercise, falling on two tumbling passes and dropping to third place.
