Picture a restaurant host stand cluttered with three different iPads, each showing reservations from competing apps that don't talk to each other. That frustrating reality just got a whole lot simpler.
SevenRooms launched Channel Connect on June 16, a free tool that solves one of the restaurant industry's biggest daily headaches. The software automatically syncs reservation data from multiple platforms into whichever system a restaurant prefers to use.
The problem has been growing as more reservation apps launch each year. Unlike airlines and hotels, which use central systems that let competing booking sites see the same inventory, restaurant reservation platforms each maintain separate databases. Staff waste precious time switching between apps and devices just to see if they have room for walk-ins on busy nights.
"If you walk into a restaurant, some of them have two or three iPads at the host stand," says Joel Montaniel, cofounder and CEO of SevenRooms. His company was acquired by DoorDash last year but decided this problem needed solving for everyone, not just their own customers.
Here's the best part: restaurants don't need to use SevenRooms to access Channel Connect. The free software works with any preferred platform, giving restaurant owners complete control over their systems.

SevenRooms also promises not to store any data unless restaurants explicitly choose to transfer it. While the tool could naturally introduce restaurant owners to SevenRooms' other paid services, Montaniel insists that's not the primary goal.
The Ripple Effect
This solution addresses a universal pain point that's been building for years. Every new reservation platform that launched meant one more device or login for already stretched restaurant staff to manage during their busiest moments.
By creating a free bridge between competing systems, SevenRooms is giving restaurants something rare: more options without more complexity. Owners can now reach customers through every available channel without drowning in administrative chaos.
The move also sets a collaborative precedent in an industry known for platform competition. When one company solves a problem for everyone, not just their paying customers, the entire ecosystem benefits.
Restaurant staff can now focus on what they do best: welcoming guests and creating memorable dining experiences, not wrestling with technology.
