"A big tenet of what we work on is showing how certain people may be very directly involved with certain climate solutions, but pretty much every climate solution can be really advanced by anybody," said Dr. Sarah Gleeson, project lead for Drawdown Explorer. The message is clear: you don't need to be a scientist or policymaker to make a difference.

The second tool, called SHIFT, takes a more personal approach. This web-based guide helps individuals discover the most effective climate actions they can take based on where they live and what resources they already have available.

For Connecticut residents, one surprisingly powerful action stands out: protecting and restoring local forests and ecosystems. According to Gleeson, every protected acre of forest prevents more than 500 kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions—equal to keeping a gas-powered car off the road for about 2,000 miles.
