Genesis GV90 SUV Features Doors That Disappear
A luxury electric SUV just debuted with doors that open to make the entire side of the vehicle disappear, plus front seats that spin around to face backward. The Genesis GV90 is rewriting the rulebook on what's possible in car design.
Imagine stepping into a car through an opening so wide the entire side wall vanishes. That's exactly what Genesis just unveiled with its new GV90 electric SUV, and it's making engineers rethink everything they thought they knew about vehicle design.
The three-row luxury SUV features coach-style doors that swing open to reveal a massive entrance. When both the front and rear doors open, the middle support post (called a B-pillar) completely disappears into the structure, creating what Genesis calls the world's first hidden B-pillar coach door system.
Here's why that matters: the B-pillar is usually critical for safety during crashes and rollovers. Most carmakers would never dream of eliminating it.
But Genesis found a way to make it work. The company replaced the traditional pillar with high-strength dual steel beams built into the doors and body, plus a concealed roll cage made from metal 1.5 times thicker than conventional vehicles.

If safety regulators approve the design, it could unlock entirely new possibilities for how cars are built. The GV90 could prove that safety and stunning design don't have to be at odds.
The innovation doesn't stop at the doors. The front seats rotate 180 degrees to face backward when parked, creating a lounge-like space where passengers can chat face-to-face like they're sitting in a living room instead of a vehicle.
Inside, a 23.6-inch screen rises from the dashboard and expands to 24.6 inches for entertainment. There's also a heads-up display that replaces traditional gauges, plus a feature that remembers your route and can automatically back you out of tight parking spots.
The Bright Side
While many automakers are pulling back on ambitious electric vehicle projects, Genesis is pushing forward with bold ideas. The GV90 includes heated floors, armrests, and door panels, plus massage seats with 15 air bladders and even a roof airbag that covers the entire glass ceiling in case of rollover.
The vehicle runs on a 123.5kWh battery delivering 657 horsepower, with 310 miles of range and support for ultra-fast charging. It's scheduled to hit the US market as Genesis's first full-size electric SUV.
At a time when innovation in the auto industry seemed to be slowing down, one luxury brand just reminded us that the future of transportation can still surprise us.
