Ghana Fair Helps 1,000s Prep Kids for School Under $1 Budget

Parents in Ghana's capital just got a helping hand preparing their kids for the new school year, thanks to a community fair that brought affordable supplies together in one place.

Joy FM's Back-to-School Discount Fair wrapped up September 5th after two days of shopping at their Kokomlemle location in Accra. Sixteen businesses set up shop offering discounts on textbooks, uniforms, electronics, and household essentials for the 2026/2027 academic year.

The tech retailer Compu Ghana led the charge as main sponsor, slashing prices up to 40% on laptops, tablets, printers, and other electronics students need. Those deals continue through September 20th for families who missed the fair.

Bookshops and publishers filled tables with textbooks and school supplies while clothing vendors like Prestige Children's Palace and BeGerts Kids stocked uniforms and shoes. The fair expanded beyond typical school shopping too, with grocery vendors, sanitary product suppliers, and even a local high school offering instant admission opportunities.

Parents moved between vendor booths comparing prices and quality before buying. Many told organizers the one-stop setup saved them time and money during the stressful back-to-school season.

The Ripple Effect

The fair did more than help individual families stretch their budgets. Local businesses gained direct access to hundreds of potential customers during peak shopping season, building relationships that could last beyond September.

Educational suppliers could explain their products face-to-face while parents asked questions and made informed choices. One vendor even promoted virtual tutoring programs, connecting families with academic support before classes began.
