Ghana to Train 100 Specialist Pharmacists in 3 Years

Behind every patient who manages diabetes or hypertension successfully in Ghana stands a specialist pharmacist who makes their treatment safer and more effective.

Now, 100 more of these vital healthcare professionals will receive advanced training over the next three years. The Ghana Medical Trust Fund is spearheading this initiative to strengthen care for the growing number of Ghanaians living with chronic conditions.

Specialist pharmacists work alongside doctors and nurses to ensure medications are safe, properly prescribed, and truly life-giving. Their expertise transforms prescriptions into hope for patients managing conditions like diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease.

Administrator Adjoa Obuobia Opoku-Darko recently led a delegation to the Ghana College of Pharmacists to launch discussions about the collaboration. The visit marked an important first step toward building the partnerships needed to deliver specialized training nationwide.

Dr. Yvonne Yirenkyiwaa Esseku, the College's Rector, welcomed the team warmly and pledged full commitment to the program. She promised to work closely with all stakeholders to ensure trained pharmacists are successfully deployed across Ghana.
