Ghana's Dashiki Festival Celebrates 10 Years of Youth Impact

A community health walk that began 10 years ago in Ghana has grown into one of the country's most anticipated youth festivals, proving that small ideas can create big change.

The Dashiki Festival returns July 14-18, 2026, bringing five days of football, fashion, music, and wellness to thousands of young Ghanaians. Founded by comedian Timothy Musa Jnr. Abaadu, known as MJtheComedian, the festival has evolved into a launch pad for emerging talent across sports, design, and entertainment.

"When we started this journey ten years ago, the vision was simple: to use culture to unite people and inspire healthier lifestyles," says MJtheComedian. "Today, Dashiki Festival has become a platform where young people discover opportunities, celebrate their identity and create lasting memories."

This year's milestone celebration kicks off with an eight-team football tournament giving community teams a competitive stage while building social connections. On July 17, emerging fashion designers will reimagine Ghana's classic dashiki patterns with modern creativity, gaining exposure that can transform their careers.

The finale on July 18 features the signature Dashiki Health Walk, where thousands will dress in colorful dashiki prints and walk from the Ghana International Trade Fair Centre through historic sites before returning for an afternoon of performances. Throughout all five days, participants enjoy aerobics, dance competitions, live music, and family activities.

The Ripple Effect

The festival's true impact shows up in the opportunities it creates. Young footballers gain competitive experience, fashion designers showcase their work to wider audiences, and musicians perform for thousands. Content creators build portfolios, and volunteers develop leadership skills that extend far beyond the event itself.
