Ghana's Savannah Region Gets New Schools and Stadium

Ghana's Savannah Region is getting a major boost in education and economic infrastructure that promises to transform opportunities for thousands of young people.

President John Dramani Mahama joined the Gonjaland Youth Association in Buipe to celebrate their 50th anniversary and unveiled plans that put education and youth development front and center. The announcement marks a significant investment in one of Ghana's regions with tremendous growth potential.

The education package includes new STEM schools in Tinga and Busunu, bringing cutting-edge science and technology education closer to students who previously had limited access. Senior high schools across the region will see expanded infrastructure, while selected Category B schools will be upgraded to Category A status, offering students better facilities and resources.

"Education is the bridge between where we are and where we aspire to be," President Mahama told the gathered crowd. That philosophy is driving the comprehensive approach to regional development.

Beyond classrooms, the region will get its first modern sports stadium, creating a hub for athletics and community gatherings. The facility will provide young athletes with proper training grounds and bring sporting events to the area.

Economic opportunity is also central to the plan. The government will construct 24-hour markets in every district, designed to create jobs and support local businesses around the clock.

These investments work together to address multiple challenges at once. Better schools mean more skilled graduates. Markets and infrastructure mean those graduates can find meaningful work close to home instead of migrating to cities.
