Giant Hot Dogs Race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway

Imagine a 27-foot-long hot dog on wheels zooming around one of the most famous racetracks in America. That's exactly what happens at the Oscar Mayer Wienie 500, and it's as delightful as it sounds.

Six giant Wienermobiles will race two laps around Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Friday, May 22 at 2 p.m. ET. Each hot dog represents a different region of America, from the Slaw Dog of the Southwest to the Chi Dog of the Midwest.

These aren't slow-moving parade floats. The Wienermobiles can reach speeds between 60 and 70 miles per hour as they cruise around the same track that hosts the legendary Indianapolis 500.

Last year marked the first time the Wienie 500 took place at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The Slaw Dog took home the checkered flag, beating five other regional hot dog competitors in what quickly became a fan favorite event.

The winning Wienie doesn't just get bragging rights. The victor receives a Wiener's Wreath in Victory Lane, a playful twist on the traditional winner's garland at the actual Indy 500.
