Ginger Cat Cleared After Passengers Defend Pet on Delayed Train
When a train arrived seven hours late in Thailand, social media blamed a cranky cat—until fellow passengers spoke up to defend the innocent feline. The real culprits were two broken locomotives, not the briefly overheated pet.
A ginger cat traveling on a Thai train became an unlikely internet villain this week, but kindhearted passengers quickly set the record straight.
Rapid Train No. 169 from Bangkok to Yala pulled into its final station seven hours behind schedule on Monday evening. Social media posts quickly pointed fingers at a feisty feline who had caused a brief commotion during the journey, sparking online criticism of the cat and its owner.
According to passenger Kijja Pongpisa's Facebook post, the cat became agitated by the scorching heat in the non-air-conditioned sleeper car. The pet briefly scratched passengers and bit its owner before three train staff wrapped it in a bedsheet to calm it down—a process that took just 20 minutes.
But when news outlets shared the story, blaming the cat for the massive delay, fellow passengers jumped to the pet's defense. They revealed what really happened during that long journey through southern Thailand.
"The new engine replacing the broken one was also out of order," passenger Ros Laoh explained in a comment. "The delay wasn't due to the cat."

Other passengers confirmed the train had stopped twice for locomotive replacements—first at Na Phak Kwuang station, then again 50 kilometers later at Khao Chaiyarat station when the replacement engine also failed. Passenger Seamen Ben did the math: "It took only 20 minutes to catch the cat. The pet did not cause the delay."
Sunny's Take
In a world quick to blame and shame on social media, these passengers showed what compassion looks like. They could have stayed silent and let an innocent cat take the heat (literally and figuratively) for mechanical failures beyond anyone's control.
Instead, they spoke up for a creature that couldn't defend itself. Their kindness reminds us that the truth matters, even when it's about something as small as clearing a cat's name.
The State Railway of Thailand confirmed the seven-hour delay but didn't specify the cause, noting only that delays can result from construction, engine malfunctions, or other issues. The cat, meanwhile, eventually calmed down and finished the journey peacefully on its seat.
Sometimes the smallest acts of advocacy make the biggest difference—even when they're for our four-legged travel companions.
