Golden Calls Volunteers to Clean Clear Creek This Monday

When sunshine brings crowds to Colorado's Clear Creek, it also leaves behind a trail of trash that volunteers are stepping up to fix.

The City of Golden is asking residents to join a cleanup effort Monday morning from 7 to 9 a.m. along the creek corridor. Officials expect large crowds this weekend despite low water levels, which means more cleanup work ahead.

Volunteers can stay for the full two hours or drop in whenever their schedule allows. The city provides all the necessary tools, including safety vests, gloves, trash bags, buckets, and grabber tools.

The cleanup program launched on June 1 and runs twice weekly through summer on Monday and Thursday mornings. It's part of Golden's ongoing effort to maintain the beloved recreation spot that draws visitors every sunny weekend.

What started as a need to manage weekend trash has become something bigger. Regular cleanup days create a consistent way for community members to care for the outdoor spaces they love.

The program also reminds visitors to pack out what they pack in. When trash cans overflow, the city asks people to carry items to another bin or take trash home rather than leaving it behind.

Volunteers should wear long pants, long sleeves, hats, and closed-toe shoes for safety. Bringing sunscreen and a water bottle is recommended, especially as the city operates under Stage 1 drought restrictions.
