Following a comprehensive mock examination involving 26,857 candidates, 23,873 students were selected for government-sponsored examination support. An impressive 88 percent of these students scored 50 percent and above, qualifying them for the financial assistance.
The breakdown of examination registrations reveals 21,909 students will sit for WAEC, 1,431 for NABTEB, and 297 candidates for NBAIS. Notably, the initiative includes 183 non-indigenous students on exchange programmes and 53 students with special needs, underscoring the administration's inclusive education policy.
Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya's administration will jointly fund the programme with local governments, employing a 60-40 cost-sharing ratio. This strategic intervention aims to eliminate financial barriers, improve academic performance, and position Gombe State as a leading educational center in the North-East region.
