The economic impact starts immediately. During the construction phase in 2027 and 2028, the project will support over 37,000 jobs nationwide and contribute €3.6 billion annually to Finland's GDP. These aren't just tech jobs either, ranging from electrical engineers to catering staff to security personnel.

Google isn't just building data centers. The company is investing €31 million directly into local communities over four years, including AI upskilling programs for 4,400 workers and training opportunities for 100 students preparing for data center careers.

What makes this investment remarkable is how Google is weaving clean energy into every layer of the plan. The company signed a 22-year agreement to support extending the life of the Loviisa nuclear power plant, ensuring stable, carbon-free power for decades.

They're also adding new onshore wind capacity and a 94-megawatt battery system to stabilize energy prices during Finland's cold, windless periods. This protects local consumers from price spikes while powering AI infrastructure that serves millions across Europe.

The environmental commitment goes beyond energy. Google is funding projects to regenerate native forests and wetlands near the data center sites, restoring ecosystems that have been degraded over time.

For the community, there's a human touch too. The company is building accessible recreational trails, public saunas, and fishing piers so locals can enjoy the natural spaces around these high-tech facilities.

Google's Hamina facility already pioneered a seawater-based cooling system and heat recovery system that warms local homes and businesses. The new facilities will expand these innovations, showing how data centers can become good neighbors rather than energy drains.
