Google Now Removes Passport and SSN From Search Results

Google announced major improvements to its "Results About You" privacy tool today. The feature can now detect and remove pages containing your passport number, driver's license, and Social Security number from search results.

Here's how it works: you tell Google what to look for, and it scans the web on your behalf. For driver's licenses, you provide the full number. For passports and Social Security numbers, you only need the last four digits, which is enough for Google to spot the complete numbers on webpages.

Once you add your information, Google regularly scans for it and emails you when it pops up. You can then request removal with a few clicks. While the content doesn't disappear from the internet entirely, removing it from Google's search results makes it much harder for bad actors to find.

Google also made its tool for removing non-consensual explicit images faster and easier to use. This includes both real photos and AI-generated deepfakes, which have exploded online as artificial intelligence tools become more accessible.

The new version lets you report multiple images in one request instead of filing separate reports for each one. That's a huge time-saver if someone creates multiple fake images. You can now access the tool directly from any image in Google search results by clicking the three-dot menu.
