Grayling High Bowlers Raise Funds With Community Event

When the Grayling High School bowling team needed to raise funds, they didn't just ask for donations. They invited their community to come bowl, compete, and celebrate together.

The Vikings hosted their inaugural Nine-Pin No Tap Bowling Fundraiser on January 18 at Legion Lanes in northern Michigan. Forty adults from the community showed up to support the team, turning the event into more than just a fundraiser.

Eight bowling team members organized and ran the event themselves. Russell Strohpaul, Brody Carr, Eryka Blaine, Lahken Forbes, Ahryn Lavigne, Ali Michels, and Lucas joined forces to make their first fundraiser a success.

The format combined friendly competition with prizes, making it fun for participants of all skill levels. Nine-Pin No Tap rules count nine pins as a strike, keeping things exciting for casual bowlers while still rewarding skilled players.

The Ripple Effect

This fundraiser represents something bigger than dollars raised. These student athletes learned to organize a community event, connect with supporters, and lead through action rather than just asking for help.

The strong turnout showed Grayling residents are eager to invest in their young people when given meaningful ways to participate. By creating an experience instead of simply requesting donations, the bowling team gave their community a reason to gather, compete, and have fun together on a January evening.

The Vikings are building more than bowling skills. They're learning that success comes from bringing people together, creating value for supporters, and showing up with confidence and organization.
