Gujarat Drones Help Rescue 100+ Stranded Flood Victims

When monsoon floods submerged homes across Gujarat's Dholka region in July, hundreds of families found themselves trapped with no way out. Roads vanished under muddy water, neighborhoods became islands, and rescue teams faced an impossible question: how do you save people you can't see or reach?

The drones became the rescuers' eyes, providing real-time aerial views of flooded neighborhoods and helping teams spot families stranded on rooftops and inside schools. When darkness fell and visibility dropped to nearly zero, the drones kept flying, monitoring conditions through the night so rescue operations could continue safely.

GPS tracking helped responders identify exactly where people needed help most urgently. Live video feeds let teams plan safer routes through dangerous floodwaters, avoiding submerged hazards that could trap rescue boats or tractors.

In areas too waterlogged for any vehicle to access, the drones delivered food and drinking water using custom payload systems. For families who had been waiting hours without supplies, those deliveries brought both relief and hope that help was coming.

Prime UAV didn't start as a disaster response company. Founded in 2019, the startup originally focused on agricultural drones, infrastructure inspections, and mapping services. But when COVID-19 hit, they pivoted to help with sanitization efforts and lockdown monitoring.

In 2020, they deployed drones again during a locust invasion threatening crops across Gujarat and Rajasthan. Each emergency taught them how technology could serve communities when minutes matter most.

This rescue operation showed emergency responders across India a new model for disaster response. Other states now reaching out to learn how drones can strengthen their own flood preparedness plans.

The technology is becoming more accessible too. As drone costs decrease and more Indian startups enter the space, even smaller municipalities can afford aerial support during emergencies.

Prime UAV is now working with government agencies to develop standardized protocols for drone deployment during natural disasters. Their goal is to help create a national network where any affected region can quickly access drone support when floods, earthquakes, or other emergencies strike.
