Students work together on robotics project at Caribbean regional technology education competition

Guyana Joins Caribbean Robotics Partnership for Youth

✨ Faith Restored

STEMGuyana has officially joined a regional network connecting young innovators across the Caribbean through robotics competitions and technology education. The partnership opens doors for Guyanese students to compete internationally and collaborate with peers from neighboring islands.

A new alliance is connecting Caribbean youth through robots, coding, and innovation.

STEMGuyana signed a partnership agreement in February 2026 with the Eastern Caribbean Robotics and Innovation Association (ECRIA), creating fresh opportunities for young people across the region to learn together. The collaboration formally connects Guyana to a network of Caribbean nations already working to prepare students for technology careers.

The partnership kicked off with representation at the OECS Super Regional Robotics Challenge in St. Kitts and Nevis from March 16 to 20. Student teams from across the Caribbean gathered to compete in robotics challenges that test engineering skills, teamwork, and creative problem solving.

Elsie Harry, a Board Member and Fundraising Coordinator for STEMGuyana, spoke at the opening ceremony on March 17. She now serves as the organization's official liaison to ECRIA, helping bridge connections between Guyana and regional robotics programs.

"Regional collaboration is critical if we are to prepare Caribbean youth for the rapidly evolving global technology landscape," Harry said. She emphasized that the partnership will let Guyanese students share best practices while learning from other Caribbean innovators.

While STEMGuyana didn't field a competition team this year, the organization plans to send Guyanese students to future Caribbean robotics challenges. The goal is expanding access to high-quality STEAM education for young people who might not otherwise have these opportunities.

The Ripple Effect

This partnership does more than connect robots and computers. It builds bridges between Caribbean nations, creating a community where students can see themselves as part of something larger than their home country.

When young people collaborate across borders on technology projects, they develop technical skills alongside cultural understanding. They learn that innovation happens everywhere, not just in traditional tech hubs far from the Caribbean.

STEMGuyana has already been working across the country to teach coding, robotics, and entrepreneurial thinking to young people from all backgrounds. The organization focuses on making sure students in every community can access digital skills training, not just those in major cities.

Now those same students will have chances to compete internationally, showcase their talents, and bring lessons home to inspire the next wave of Caribbean innovators. One robotics competition becomes a pathway to regional cooperation and shared success for an entire generation.
