Harwich Mariners Win 7th Cape Cod Baseball League Title

When Luke Morgan induced a pop-up to third base in the ninth inning Tuesday night, the Harwich Mariners erupted in celebration of their seventh Cape Cod Baseball League title. The 4-2 victory over the Bourne Braves brought championship glory back to Whitehouse Field in front of more than 7,000 cheering fans.

"This is unbelievable," said first baseman Sean O'Leary after the win. "Words can't even describe it. This is a memory that's going to live with me and with these guys forever."

The Mariners wasted no time getting on the board, stringing together three consecutive singles in the first inning. Cade Kurland drove in the first run, setting the tone for what would become a championship night.

Harwich added runs in the third and sixth innings to build a 4-1 lead. The offense came alive after managing just three hits total in their previous 1-0 win in Game 2, showing the team's resilience when it mattered most.

But this championship didn't come easy. Bourne mounted late-inning threats in the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings, loading the bases and putting pressure on Harwich's bullpen. Each time, the Mariners rose to the challenge and got the crucial outs they needed.

The path to this title makes the victory even sweeter. Harwich finished third in the East Division with a 21-19 record, hardly the mark of a dominant regular season team. But the postseason brought out their best baseball.

They swept the Brewster Whitecaps in the semifinals, then knocked off top-seeded Yarmouth-Dennis in the division finals. After dropping Game 1 of the championship series 7-3, the Mariners bounced back with consecutive wins to claim the crown.

Third baseman JP Peltier earned postseason MVP honors after hitting .346 with two home runs and 12 walks. His clutch pop-up catch sealed the championship, but the real story is how an entire roster came together when the stakes were highest.
