
Heat Pump Slashes Factory Energy Costs by 50% in Texas
A Texas company just made factory heating 10 times more efficient than traditional boilers, cutting costs in half while eliminating carbon emissions. European manufacturers could save millions starting year one.
Factories now have a way to heat their operations that's 10 times more efficient than conventional boilers while producing zero emissions.
Skyven Technologies announced its Arcturus industrial heat pump reached a coefficient of performance of 8.0 at its Dallas demonstration center. That means for every unit of electricity it uses, it delivers eight units of heating energy.
The company commissioned the center in November 2024 with a COP of 6.5. Just months later, refinements in design and controls pushed performance even higher, making it about 10 times more efficient than natural gas boilers that power most factories today.
Traditional boilers burn fuel to create steam for manufacturing processes like food production, chemical processing, and pharmaceutical manufacturing. Arcturus generates the same industrial heat without combustion, using technology similar to home heat pumps but scaled for factory temperatures up to 185°C.
The breakthrough comes at a critical time for European manufacturers who pay roughly four times more for steam than their American counterparts. Arun Gupta, Skyven's founder and CEO, says the technology cuts their steam costs by 50% or more.

The Ripple Effect
The savings extend beyond energy bills. Under the EU's Emissions Trading System, industrial sites pay for every tonne of carbon dioxide they emit from conventional boilers. Arcturus eliminates those emissions entirely, removing compliance costs that will only increase as free carbon allowances phase out.
Skyven typically saves European manufacturers between €1 million and €5 million in the first year alone through its Energy-as-a-Service model. Customers don't need huge upfront capital investments. Those savings flow straight to their bottom line, helping them stay competitive globally.
The technology works across different factory conditions too. Skyven can adjust Arcturus's performance to match each site's specific needs, optimizing the balance between temperature lift and efficiency. Lower temperature applications hit the 8.0 COP mark, while higher temperature needs still deliver a COP of 2.0, far better than conventional options.
Industrial heating accounts for a massive chunk of global energy use and emissions. Solutions like this prove factories can dramatically cut both costs and carbon without sacrificing the steam they need to operate.
