Henderson Celebrates Little League's U.S. Championship Win

When Paseo Verde Little League stepped onto the field in August, nobody expected them to become national champions.

The Henderson, Nevada team crushed that prediction with a dominant 12-2 victory over Ohio on August 29, capturing the U.S. Championship at the Little League World Series. Now their city is throwing them a celebration worthy of their achievement.

Henderson will host the championship celebration on Saturday, September 19 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Lee's Family Forum Tiltyard. The team will arrive "in style" to a morning packed with giveaways and activities for fans.

"They represented the Silver State, Mountain West and U.S. from coast to coast, now it is time to bring the party home to Henderson," the city announced. The team advanced to face Curaçao for the overall World Series title before their historic run ended.

Player Adrian Cruz captured what the journey meant to the young athletes. "For the work we did there, no one expected us to get that far," he told reporters. "And I think that we deserve all the things we're getting right now. So, it feels good."

Team manager Cory Edwards saw the championship run as more than just wins and losses. When emotions ran high during their final game against Curaçao, he made sure his players understood something bigger than baseball.

"I want to make sure that, you know, win or lose, if they're proud of themselves, but also carrying themselves in the right way," Edwards said. "I think that's super important when you're faced with adversity."
