Hero Jumps Into River, Smashes Window to Save Trapped Driver

A car sinking into a cold river at night could have ended in tragedy, but one person's courage turned a potential disaster into a rescue story worth celebrating.

On Sunday evening, May 3rd, a vehicle crashed into the Nehalem River in downtown Nehalem, Oregon, quickly becoming completely submerged. A witness saw what happened and made a choice that would save a life.

Without waiting for emergency services, the Good Samaritan jumped into the river and swam to the sinking vehicle. He broke out the back glass with his bare hands and pulled the trapped driver to safety.

When Nehalem Bay Fire and Rescue arrived at 9:47 PM, they found both the rescuer and the driver already on shore. EMTs evaluated both individuals at the scene, and the driver was transported to Tillamook Adventist Hospital for further care as a precaution.

The rescue was a textbook example of quick thinking under pressure. In water rescues, every second counts, and this bystander's immediate action likely made the difference between life and death.
