High School Team Wins First-Ever Game Against Rival

On Tuesday night at Rotary Field in Schuylkill Haven, Pennsylvania, the Hurricanes soccer team finally broke through. They defeated the Shenandoah Valley Blue Devils 2-0, marking the first time in program history they've beaten their rivals.

The win meant even more because it snapped a rough three-game losing streak where the team had been outscored 13-1. Coach Gary Hess called it a turning point for his struggling squad.

"We've struggled to put the ball in the back of the net this year, and once we finally broke that seal, I think the waterfall is running at this point," Hess said. His team had been competitive in recent games but couldn't finish.

The game stayed scoreless through most of the match, with both teams playing physical defense. Schuylkill Haven controlled possession but couldn't convert their chances into goals.

"Whenever I kick the ball with a curve, I always feel good about it," Murphy said. "I practice every day."

Fessler got his redemption in the final seconds, adding an insurance goal to seal the historic 2-0 victory. The Hurricanes' defense held strong throughout, preventing Shenandoah Valley from mounting a comeback.
