High School Team Wins First Game vs. Rival in 47 Seconds

The Southern Regional Rams girls lacrosse team defeated Rumson-Fair Haven 6-5 in overtime on Tuesday, marking the first time in the program's entire history they've beaten the longtime powerhouse. Senior Mackenzie Sininsky scored five goals, including the game-tying shot with just five seconds left in regulation and the overtime winner.

The game looked like a blowout early. Southern jumped to a 4-1 lead at halftime, dominating play in their Manahawkin home stadium.

But Rumson-Fair Haven didn't earn their reputation by giving up easily. The Bulldogs' defense clamped down in the second half, holding Southern scoreless while mounting a comeback. Three unanswered goals in the fourth quarter gave RFH a 5-4 lead with time running out.

With five seconds remaining and their historic win slipping away, Sininsky found an opening and fired the equalizer. The crowd erupted as the game headed to sudden-death overtime.

The drama only intensified from there. Rumson won the opening draw in overtime, gaining first possession with the game on the line. Southern's defense, which had been tested all afternoon, came up with a crucial stop when it mattered most.
