Seven million people ride Hong Kong's MTR every day, and this October, the rail operator is saying thank you with half-price fares across the entire network.

MTR Corporation announced that passengers will pay 50% less on October 24 for a special "Thank You Day" celebration. The discount applies to Octopus card users, JoyYou card holders, and QR code ticket buyers riding heavy rail, Light Rail, and bus services throughout the northwestern New Territories.

Even cross-border travelers heading to Lo Wu and Lok Ma Chau stations on the East Rail line can take advantage of the savings. That means commuters, tourists, and day-trippers alike will benefit from the discount.

The deal gets even sweeter for regular riders. Passengers can stack the half-price discount with other existing benefits like interchange discounts, fare saver programs, and the 25% reduction on monthly pass connecting journeys.

Elderly passengers and eligible people with disabilities who already receive the government's HK$2 (25 US cents) fare concession can combine that with the half-price offer too. For many frequent riders, that could mean paying just a dollar or two for trips that normally cost much more.
