Weekend trips to Shenzhen just got a whole lot more interesting than dim sum runs.

Raymond Leung, who works in manufacturing technical management, planned his Saturday trip around the museum opening. He brought three friends and budgeted about $74 per person for the day, including lunch after their visit.

"While you can occasionally see dinosaur fossils in Hong Kong, too, they are not on permanent display like they are here," Leung told reporters. The group doesn't normally visit Shenzhen frequently, but the new cultural attractions changed their minds.

The museum showcases rare meteorites, complete dinosaur skeletons, and exhibits spanning billions of years of natural history. It's part of Shenzhen's recent push to build mega-scale cultural facilities that rival anything available across the border.
