Huawei Unveils Chip Tech Rivaling Industry Leaders by 2031

Huawei Technologies revealed a groundbreaking approach to chip design that could bring its processors on par with industry leaders by 2031, marking a major leap in China's push for tech independence.

The company introduced the Tau Scaling Law and LogicFolding architecture at a major engineering conference in Shanghai this week. Chair of Huawei's Scientist Committee He Tingbo explained that this new principle replaces the traditional method of shrinking transistors with a time-based scaling approach.

The innovation represents a fundamental shift in how chips are designed. Instead of just making components smaller, the new architecture reduces electrical resistance and boosts the density of transistors, the tiny switches that power all modern electronics.

Huawei claims it has already used this approach to design and mass produce 381 different chips over the past six years. The company expects its upcoming processors to achieve transistor density equivalent to 1.4 nanometer processes by 2031, matching the cutting edge capabilities of industry leaders TSMC and Samsung.

The first commercial application arrives soon. Huawei's new Kirin chips, launching later this year, will be the first to use the LogicFolding architecture with enhanced performance.
