Professional racer JR Hildebrand just made history on one of the world's most challenging roads, rocketing up Colorado's Pikes Peak in 9.5 minutes behind the wheel of a hybrid Corvette ZR1X. The route that normally takes casual drivers 30 minutes became a blur of 156 corners and breathtaking speed.

The car itself is a marvel of modern engineering. It combines a traditional 5.5-liter V8 engine with an electric motor to produce 1,250 horsepower, nearly double the power of the previous record holder.
