Hyundai Invests $6.3B in AI and Robotics Hub in Korea

South Korea is about to get a game-changing upgrade that could reshape how the world thinks about advanced manufacturing and clean energy.

Hyundai Motor Group just announced plans to invest $6.3 billion in the Saemangeum area of Gunsan City, creating an innovation hub that brings together AI, robotics, and hydrogen technology all in one place. Construction begins in 2026 and represents the company's commitment to building the future right in its home country.

The project tackles five major goals at once. The centerpiece is a massive AI data center with up to 50,000 GPUs that will power everything from self-driving cars to smart factories. A robotics manufacturing cluster will produce 30,000 robots annually, complete with AI training centers to make sure each robot is ready for real-world work.

Clean energy powers the entire vision. Hyundai is investing $700 million in a hydrogen production plant that uses renewable energy to create pollution-free fuel. Another $900 million goes toward gigawatt-scale solar infrastructure to keep the energy-hungry data centers running on clean power.

The human impact makes this more than just a technology story. The company estimates this single project will create 71,000 jobs across manufacturing, research, tech services, and supporting industries. Entire supply chains will grow around the hub, from component makers to specialized service providers.

The plan also includes building an AI hydrogen smart city where all these technologies work together in daily life. Residents will experience autonomous transportation, robot-assisted services, and hydrogen-powered systems integrated into their neighborhoods.

As the facility scales up to one gigawatt of electrolyzer capacity by the end of the decade, it proves that clean hydrogen production can work at industrial scale.
