Hyundai Plants 100,000 Trees and Brings Dental Care to Brazil

When a major automaker sets up shop in a new country, you might expect factories and sales offices. Hyundai Motor Group decided to plant an entire forest instead.

Since 2022, the company has planted 100,000 native trees across Brazil's Minas Gerais and São Paulo states through its Ioniq Forest project. The initiative has restored 40 hectares of Atlantic Forest, bringing back native species and rebuilding critical ecosystems that had been cleared.

The reforestation work goes beyond just planting. Hyundai provides agroforestry systems to local residents in restored areas, helping them manage and sustain the new growth for years to come.

But trees are just one part of Hyundai's presence in Brazil. Since 2014, the company has run a mobile dental clinic called Sorriso Cidadão (Dental Trailer) that brings oral healthcare directly to communities. Medical staff drive a fully equipped trailer to neighborhoods, schools, and public service stations where access to dental care is limited.

The program started with kids and teens but has grown to serve police officers, firefighters, and other public workers. As of May 2026, the mobile clinic has provided 83,000 treatments, including examinations, cleanings, and minor surgeries.

Patients who need more complex care get referred to specialist clinics. What began in Piracicaba, where Hyundai's production plant sits, now reaches surrounding cities.

This year, Hyundai plans to expand services to four social welfare institutions, over 15 schools, and additional emergency service stations. The growth comes as part of Chair Chung Eui-sun's 2024 commitment to invest $1.1 billion in Brazil by 2032, with community programs woven into the business strategy.

Other Hyundai subsidiaries are joining in. Hyundai Glovis sponsors a Korean Film Festival and supports the Piracicaba Symphony Orchestra while running youth judo clubs. Hyundai AutoEver teaches information technology skills to teenagers through partnerships with local vocational programs.

The Ripple Effect

The combination of environmental restoration and healthcare access shows how corporate investment can address multiple community needs at once. Restored forests improve air quality, protect water sources, and create green spaces for recreation. Free dental care prevents painful infections and helps people stay healthy enough to work and attend school.

When companies build roots in communities rather than just building factories, everyone grows stronger together.
