IIT Kharagpur Adds MTech Seats to Mark 75th Anniversary

One of India's premier engineering institutes is marking its 75th birthday by opening its doors wider to the next generation of innovators.

IIT Kharagpur announced its Director's Platinum Jubilee Scheme on Special Admission Opportunities for Inclusive Postgraduate Education this week. The program increases the number of students the institute can accept into its Master of Technology programs starting in the 2026-27 academic session.

The new seats focus on fields that align with India's national development goals and emerging technologies. Students can pursue advanced studies in areas like renewable energy, aerospace engineering, machine learning, biotechnology, and earth system science.

The expansion aims to strengthen the pool of highly skilled technical professionals across India. More graduate education spots at top-tier institutes mean more young engineers get the chance to tackle the country's biggest challenges.

Students who qualify through the national GATE exam can apply for the additional seats. IIT graduates with a CGPA above 8.0 on a 10-point scale are also eligible through the regular admission process.

The institute already offers MTech specializations in Computer Science and Data Processing, Signal Processing and Machine Learning, Control System Engineering, Biotechnology and Biochemical Engineering, Renewable Energy Technologies, Cryogenic Engineering, Instrumentation and Integrated Electronics, Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Management, and Earth System Science and Technology.
