India and China Partner on 5 MW Green Hydrogen Breakthrough

India and China are joining forces to supercharge the clean energy revolution with a powerful new system that turns water into pollution-free hydrogen fuel.

Indian clean energy company Advait Greenergy and Chinese partner GuofuHee just completed a live demonstration of their 5 megawatt alkaline electrolyzer at a factory in Zhangjiagang, China. The massive system can produce 1,000 cubic meters of green hydrogen every hour, enough to power industrial operations that currently rely on fossil fuels.

More than 70 organizations from across the green hydrogen industry attended the demonstration, watching the system perform critical functions like cold starts, load adjustments, and energy consumption measurements in real time. Customers got to see exactly how the technology works under actual industrial conditions before committing to purchases.

The partnership combines GuofuHee's hydrogen production expertise with Advait Greenergy's manufacturing capabilities to bring advanced electrolyzer technology to India. The collaboration supports India's National Green Hydrogen Mission, a government initiative aimed at making the country a global leader in clean hydrogen production.

Advait Greenergy has already built an electrolyzer assembly facility in Kadi, Gujarat, with capacity to produce 30 megawatts per year. The company plans to rapidly scale up to 300 megawatts and eventually 1 gigawatt of annual production capacity.

The Ripple Effect

This technology breakthrough matters far beyond just two companies working together. Green hydrogen offers a realistic path to cleaning up industries that are incredibly difficult to decarbonize, including steel manufacturing, chemical production, fertilizer plants, and petroleum refineries.

Traditional hydrogen production releases massive amounts of carbon dioxide. Green hydrogen made from water using renewable electricity produces zero emissions. As manufacturing costs drop and production scales up, entire industrial sectors could switch to clean fuel.

The India-China partnership also demonstrates how countries can collaborate on climate solutions even amid geopolitical tensions. Technology transfer agreements like this one help spread clean energy innovations faster than any single nation could manage alone.

Director Rutvi Sheth emphasized that transparency was central to the demonstration, giving stakeholders confidence in the technology's real-world performance. That openness could accelerate adoption across multiple hard-to-abate industries.

The collaboration aims to deliver complete hydrogen infrastructure solutions, from production equipment to storage, compression, and distribution systems. Industries across India will soon have access to proven technology that can help them meet climate goals without sacrificing productivity.
