Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson have launched a bold partnership to accelerate the clean energy transition while boosting economic growth in both nations. India has emerged as one of the world's fastest-growing major economies while simultaneously pursuing one of the planet's largest renewable energy transitions. Sweden brings impressive credentials to the partnership. The Nordic nation's electric grid now runs 98% fossil-free, and its emissions have dropped dramatically since 1990 even as its economy expanded substantially.

Both countries already collaborate through the Leadership Group for Industry Transition (LeadIT), which they launched together in 2019 with United Nations support.
