India Builds Solar Panel Empire to Power Clean Energy Future

India just announced a game-changing plan to build its entire solar panel supply chain at home, marking a major leap forward for both clean energy and local manufacturing. Starting in June 2028, all government-funded renewable energy projects must use locally made solar ingots and wafers, the building blocks of every solar panel.

This move completes India's vision of homegrown solar power. The country already requires domestically made solar panels in government projects, and from June 2026, solar cells must be made locally too.

Right now, India can produce about 2 gigawatts worth of ingots and wafers. That might sound small, but major companies are stepping up with massive investments to change that.

Waaree Energies, Tata Power, and Indosol Solar have pledged billions of rupees to build new manufacturing facilities across the country. These factories will create thousands of jobs while helping India reach its ambitious goal of 500 gigawatts of non-fossil fuel power by 2030.

The country currently imports all its solar components like cells, ingots, wafers, and polysilicon from China. This new policy flips that script entirely, keeping money and jobs within India's borders.
