India Leads Plan to Help 100 Startups Go Global Yearly

Prime Minister Narendra Modi just asked the world's fastest-growing economies to open their doors wider for entrepreneurs. At the BRICS Business Forum in New Delhi, he proposed helping 100 startups expand into member markets every year, creating structured pathways for founders to scale beyond their home countries.

The timing couldn't be better for ambitious entrepreneurs. BRICS now includes 11 countries representing nearly half the world's population, 40% of global GDP, and more than a quarter of all international trade.

Modi challenged the BRICS Business Council to review this annual target while tackling another ambitious goal: removing the top 10 trade barriers and facilitating 1,000 new business partnerships each year. The New Delhi Declaration backing the proposal also weighs creating a BRICS Startup Innovation Fund and launching a startup incubator network.

India brought receipts to the table. The country offered its Digital Public Infrastructure and UPI payment architecture as a ready-made blueprint for member nations, showing how technology can bridge markets and simplify cross-border business.

The proposal extends beyond startups to small and medium enterprises struggling with access to capital. Member nations are exploring better financing frameworks, including credit assessment tools and invoice discounting mechanisms that could unlock growth for millions of businesses.

This isn't just about helping 100 companies. It's about proving that emerging economies can create their own pathways to growth without depending solely on Western markets. When startups can easily sell to customers in Brazil, India, South Africa, and beyond, they're tapping into billions of potential consumers who represent the future of global commerce.

Young founders across BRICS nations now have something concrete to hope for: a future where borders matter less and opportunities matter more.
