Modern industrial electrolyzer manufacturing facility in Gujarat, India producing green hydrogen equipment

India Opens 30 MW Green Hydrogen Plant in Gujarat

🤯 Mind Blown

India just took a major step toward clean energy independence with its newest electrolyzer manufacturing facility. The plant will help produce fuel that creates zero emissions when burned.

A new factory in Gujarat, India is now producing the equipment needed to create clean fuel from water and renewable energy.

Advait Greenergy opened a 30 megawatt electrolyzer assembly facility in Mehsana, Gujarat, marking one of India's first domestic manufacturing sites for green hydrogen technology. The facility assembles alkaline electrolyzers, which are machines that split water into hydrogen and oxygen using electricity from solar or wind power.

The company isn't stopping at 30 megawatts. Plans include expanding to 100 megawatts by the end of 2026, reaching 300 megawatts in 2027, and eventually hitting 1 gigawatt of annual production capacity.

This timing aligns perfectly with India's ambitious National Green Hydrogen Mission, which aims to produce 5 million metric tons of green hydrogen each year by 2030. The government is backing this transition with real money through its Production Linked Incentive program, which has already approved Advait for 300 megawatts of manufacturing capacity.

Green hydrogen has the potential to transform some of India's most polluting industries. The fuel can replace fossil fuels in fertilizer production, oil refining, steel manufacturing, and heavy transportation like trucks and ships. When hydrogen burns, it releases only water vapor instead of carbon dioxide.

Advait Energy Transitions, the parent company listed on India's National Stock Exchange, is betting big on clean energy across multiple sectors. The company currently has over 200 megawatts of solar projects under construction and more than 400 megawatt-hours of battery storage systems in development. A separate battery manufacturing facility with 2.5 gigawatt-hours of capacity is planned for 2026.

The Ripple Effect

Gujarat is emerging as India's clean energy manufacturing hub, and this facility shows why. The state offers strong industrial infrastructure, abundant renewable energy capacity, and supportive government policies that make scaling up easier.

As more electrolyzer manufacturing capacity comes online in India, the cost of green hydrogen production should drop. Lower costs mean more industries can afford to switch from fossil fuels to clean alternatives. This creates jobs in manufacturing, installation, and maintenance while reducing air pollution in cities where millions struggle with poor air quality.

The facility also reduces India's dependence on imported energy technology. Building domestic manufacturing expertise means the country can control more of its clean energy transition and keep more economic benefits at home.

One factory in Gujarat is a small step, but it's part of a much larger transformation happening across India's energy landscape.
