India Solar Firm Opens $9.6M Factory in 9 Months

Building a fully automated solar panel factory in less than nine months sounds impossible, but Solarium Green Energy just proved it can be done.

The Indian rooftop solar company commissioned a 1 gigawatt solar module manufacturing plant in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, investing $9.6 million to create one of the most advanced facilities in the country. The factory uses cutting-edge equipment imported from around the world, including precision tabber-stringers, laminators, and sun simulators that ensure each panel meets the highest standards.

The plant produces large-format G12 solar modules reaching up to 725 watts of power. These high-efficiency panels use innovative technologies like TOPCon cells, half-cut cells, and bifacial designs that capture sunlight from both sides.

For Solarium, this factory solves a major challenge. Solar panels typically account for 50% to 60% of total project costs, forcing companies to rely on outside suppliers and deal with unpredictable pricing. By manufacturing their own panels, Solarium can control their supply chain, complete projects faster, and improve profit margins while keeping costs down for customers.

The factory's timing couldn't be better. India is racing to expand renewable energy access, and rooftop solar plays a critical role in bringing clean power to homes and businesses across the country. At 85% capacity, this single facility could generate over $107 million in annual revenue while serving both Solarium's own projects and other solar companies nationwide.
