Current systems require operating rooms designed around them and force surgeons to train on proprietary simulators only after their hospital buys a specific machine. That gatekeeping keeps expertise concentrated in a handful of elite facilities.
Dr. Venkatappa now performs complex bariatric surgeries where patients leave the next morning with virtually no scars. Procedures that once meant a week in hospital now take one or two days. For the sole breadwinner supporting an entire family, those extra days translate directly into food on the table.
