Indian Woman Trains 50+ Women to Drive Autos for Free

Jancy B V earned 700 rupees on her first day as an auto-rickshaw driver, and that moment changed everything. What started as a way to help her husband with errands became a mission to empower dozens of women.

Jancy lost her father at age 12. Her mother took on domestic work and construction jobs to keep the family afloat, working endlessly just to make ends meet.

Money was too tight for Jancy to study beyond 10th grade. At 16, she started working in a garment factory, where pressure and deadlines defined every shift.

After marriage, Jancy and her husband ran a tea stall together. When he suggested she learn to drive an auto-rickshaw to help with errands, she never imagined where it would lead.

She was nervous at first. Her husband encouraged her through every hesitant moment behind the wheel, and slowly her confidence grew.

That first 700 rupees proved something important. "I realized that I could actually do this and earn on my own," she says.

By 2021, Jancy noticed a pattern around her. Many women wanted to work and support their families but lacked the skills and support to get started.

She decided to teach them to drive without charging anything. No fees, no strings attached, just women helping women find their footing.

Nearly 50 women have learned from Jancy so far. "I just wanted them to learn and stand on their own feet," she says simply.

Every student who goes on to drive and earn fills her with pride. Watching them navigate the roads independently is the only payment she needs.

Her childhood promise to herself, planted while watching her mother struggle, has bloomed into something bigger than one family's survival.
