India's Delhi-Varanasi Route Gets Second Sleeper Train

More than 73 lakh passengers have already made the Delhi to Varanasi journey India's busiest train route, and now they're getting another comfortable way to travel overnight.

Indian Railways is planning to launch a second Vande Bharat Sleeper train between New Delhi and Varanasi, passing through major cities like Kanpur and Prayagraj. The proposed schedule would let passengers board around 9:20 PM and wake up at their destination by 5 AM the next morning.

The 16-coach train will carry 823 passengers across three classes: 11 AC 3-tier coaches, four AC 2-tier coaches, and one First AC coach. Every coach comes fully air-conditioned with ergonomically designed berths that make climbing to upper bunks easier and sleeping more comfortable.

The railway ministry hasn't announced final timings, fares, or launch dates yet. But the proposed schedule shows thoughtful planning: travelers from Varanasi would depart at 9:20 PM, reach Prayagraj by 10:45 PM, pass through Kanpur Central around 12:35 AM, and arrive in New Delhi at 5 AM.

Safety features include KAVACH automated protection systems, CCTV cameras in all coaches, emergency talk-back units, and fire barrier doors. The trains can reach speeds between 160 and 180 kilometers per hour, making them among India's fastest passenger services.

The Ripple Effect

This second train represents more than just added capacity on a popular route. It shows Indian Railways responding directly to passenger demand with modern infrastructure that makes overnight travel genuinely comfortable.

The Delhi-Varanasi corridor connects India's capital with Uttar Pradesh's major cultural and religious destinations. Adding a second sleeper service means more families can visit loved ones, more pilgrims can reach sacred sites, and more business travelers can arrive rested and ready.

The upgraded interiors feature modern toilets, improved lighting, and passenger-friendly fittings throughout. Special lavatories for passengers with disabilities sit in driving coaches at each end. Centrally controlled automatic doors and jerk-free couplers make boarding easier and rides smoother.

For families especially, the difference matters: everyone can settle into their berths right after boarding instead of converting seats into beds later. The ergonomically designed ladders and comfortable berths turn the journey itself into a restful part of the trip.
