Injured Grass Owl Rescued in Lake Sebu Gets Second Chance

A grass owl found injured in a South Cotabato rice field is getting a second chance at life, thanks to quick-acting wildlife rescuers who are helping it heal.

The owl was discovered in a rice field near Barangay Lamlahak in Lake Sebu on April 28, 2026, with a bruise on its left wing. Local authorities believe the injury came from a slingshot used by children playing nearby.

Personnel from the Allah Valley Protected Landscape office quickly stepped in to help. They cleaned and disinfected the wound with povidone-iodine and gave the bird electrolytes to support its recovery.

The owl is now headed to the DENR-12 Wildlife Rescue Center in Lutayan, Sultan Kudarat, where specialists will provide advanced care and rehabilitation. Once the medical team confirms the bird has fully recovered and can survive independently, it will be released back into its natural habitat.
