Injured Pelican Knocks on Florida Science Center Door

When staff at a Florida fisheries office heard knocking at their door, they found a pelican standing outside with fishing line wrapped around its wing and a hook embedded deep in the tissue.

The brown pelican appeared at the NOAA Southeast Fisheries Science Center in Panama City with multiple injuries. A double-barbed treble hook was lodged in its right wing, several feet of monofilament fishing line tangled around the wing, and cactus spines stuck in its left foot.
