Iowa State Women's Golf Wins First Big 12 Title in 33 Years

The Iowa State Cyclonitas just proved that comebacks are real, storming from six strokes behind to win their first Big 12 Championship and first conference title since 1993.

Competing at the Dallas Athletic Club in late April, the 25th-ranked team saved their best for last. They fired a blazing 7-under 281 in the final round, the lowest score by any team all tournament, to win by six strokes over Houston.

The numbers tell an incredible story. Iowa State racked up 49 birdies across three days, more than any other team in the field. On the final day alone, their five players combined for eight birdies on just the first two holes, immediately erasing what seemed like an insurmountable gap.

Sophomore Nichakorn Pinprayoon shared individual honors as co-champion, finishing at 7-under par alongside UCF's Mila Jurine. Her final hole showed championship grit: after hitting into a penalty area off the tee, she stuck her third shot on the fringe from 150 yards out, then drained a clutch 25-foot par putt to seal her 5-under 67.

But this victory belonged to everyone wearing Iowa State colors. Pimkwan "Pammy" Chookaew posted a bogey-free back nine with three birdies to finish eighth overall, earning All-Tournament honors for the third time. Alexandra Vidal Rivera claimed 16th place, while Isabella Yan and Karisa Chul-Ak-Sorn both tied for 19th.
