Irish Boxer McKenna Wins World Title in Dublin Homecoming

After nine years boxing around the world as a professional, Aaron McKenna finally fought on Irish soil and made it count in the biggest way possible.

The 27-year-old from Monaghan controlled all 12 rounds against previously unbeaten Etinosa Oliha at Dublin's 3Arena, claiming the IBF middleweight world title with a unanimous decision victory. Judges scored the bout 118-110, 117-111, and 116-112 in McKenna's favor, extending his perfect record to 21-0.

"Since I was six years old, I thought about this moment my whole life," McKenna told Sky Sports after the win. "For it to finally happen at 27, it goes to show everyone, don't give up, always stay true to yourself, and you can do anything."

McKenna, known as "The Silencer," started slowly as Oliha applied early pressure. But the Irish fighter found his rhythm by the middle rounds, using his jab and uppercut to keep the aggressive Italian at bay.

The Monaghan native took control as the fight progressed, forcing Oliha onto the ropes and landing combinations to both head and body. Even when a clash of heads left him bleeding in the 11th round, McKenna stayed composed and continued landing clean shots.
