Irish Sports Group Gives €1.8M to 60+ Charities Since 2008

Since 2008, the Gaelic Athletic Association has quietly built one of Ireland's most impactful charity programs, delivering more than €1.8 million to organizations making a difference in communities across the island.

The GAA just opened applications for its 2027 Official Charity Partnership, inviting registered charities to compete for four spots. Each winning charity receives €25,000 directly, plus something equally valuable: access to the GAA's massive network of clubs in nearly every Irish community.

Over 60 charities have benefited from the program since it started. The support goes beyond money, giving smaller organizations a platform they couldn't afford otherwise through the GAA's communication channels and community connections.

"As a community, the GAA is always at its best when it is about people," said GAA President Jarlath Burns. He pointed to local clubs already doing incredible charity work and described the official partnership as the organization matching that grassroots commitment at a national level.

The Ripple Effect

The real power isn't just in the direct donations. When a charity partners with the GAA, they gain visibility in towns and villages across Ireland where GAA clubs serve as community hubs. That exposure helps charities recruit volunteers, spread awareness, and connect with people who need their services.

The four charities selected for 2027 will receive a combined €100,000, continuing nearly two decades of steady charitable giving. For many smaller organizations, that €25,000 can fund programs for months or hire critical staff positions.

Applications close November 30th, 2026, giving charities nearly three months to prepare their proposals. The program accepts only registered charities, ensuring funds go to established organizations with proven track records.
