Isle of Palms Gets Universal EV Chargers by July

Electric vehicle drivers heading to Isle of Palms, South Carolina will soon find a charging station that works for almost any car they're driving.

Construction is wrapping up on a new Tesla Supercharger station at the Island Center shopping center near Harris Teeter. What makes this special is that the station includes both J1772 and NACS connectors, meaning it can charge virtually every electric vehicle sold in the United States.

That's a big deal for non-Tesla drivers who've often felt left out at charging stations. Most drivers will be able to plug in without needing an adapter, whether they're driving a Chevy Bolt, Ford Mustang Mach-E, or any Tesla model old or new.

The installation features four Tesla V4 Supercharger stalls that can deliver charging speeds up to 325 kW for compatible vehicles. That's fast enough to add significant range during a quick grocery stop or beach break.

The station is scheduled to become operational by the end of July, pending final testing and activation. It's perfectly timed for summer vacation season when the island sees its highest visitor numbers.

This charging station does more than just power up cars. It signals that Isle of Palms is ready to welcome the growing number of electric vehicle drivers who might have previously worried about getting stranded.

For residents who already drive EVs, it means less range anxiety and more convenience close to home. For visitors planning beach trips, it removes one more barrier to choosing the island as their destination.
