Israel and Morocco Upgrade Ties with Full Embassies

Two nations separated by the Mediterranean are strengthening ties in a way that could reshape regional cooperation. Israel and Morocco announced Wednesday they're upgrading their diplomatic missions to full embassies and appointing ambassadors to each country.

The agreement came during a meeting between Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar and Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita in New York. The United States helped facilitate the historic discussion, with UN Ambassador Mike Waltz hosting the talks.

The two countries aren't stopping at symbolic gestures. They've committed to completing two major economic agreements by year's end, covering investment protection and preventing double taxation for businesses operating in both nations.

Travel between the countries is about to get easier too. Direct flights operated by carriers from both Israel and Morocco will resume, reconnecting people and businesses across borders.

The announcement arrives just one day after the sixth anniversary of the Abraham Accords, the landmark initiative that began normalizing relations between Israel and several Arab and Muslim-majority nations. Morocco joined the accords in 2020, alongside the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Sudan, and Kazakhstan.
