Istanbul Hosts Global AI Summit as Türkiye Rises in Tech

🤯 Mind Blown

Innovators from five continents are gathering in Istanbul this September as Türkiye's startup ecosystem connects with global investors worth over $100 billion. The city has jumped 13 places to rank third among emerging startup hubs worldwide.

Istanbul is becoming a major bridge between global tech ecosystems, and the numbers prove it.

The inaugural GITEX AI Türkiye takes place September 9-10, bringing together 300 startups and investors from Asia, Africa, Europe, the Americas and the Middle East. Istanbul ranked third among emerging startup ecosystems in 2025, climbing 13 spots in just five years.

Türkiye has already produced eight homegrown unicorns. The country now hosts 1,188 active AI startups, showing serious momentum in one of technology's hottest sectors.

The startup showcase spans every industry imaginable. Malaysia's AgroPV is bringing solar-powered agriculture solutions. Pakistan's Nosmai developed augmented reality camera technology for e-commerce. Nigeria's Zenafri reached 130,000 learners with AI education tools.

"Pakistan has considerable engineering depth, and Türkiye has strong consumer businesses and established routes into Europe, the Gulf and Central Asia," said Ismail Qasim, CEO of Nosmai. "Both countries have talent that is ahead of its visibility."

Turkish companies are stepping up too. Türkiye's Turcorn 100 Program fast-tracks promising startups toward unicorn status, with 24 companies exhibiting at the event. Fintech company Colendi recently raised $104 million, while retail tech company Vispera secured $15 million.

Newer ventures are tackling specialized challenges. Lavren is building AI tools for legal services. Syntina AI applies generative technology to architecture and design. Workiom created an AI-first work management platform aimed at global markets.

The funding numbers tell an exciting story. Turkish startup investment grew tenfold over five years, hitting $700 million in 2025. The first quarter of 2026 saw $559 million raised, more than seven times the same period in 2025.

The Ripple Effect

More than 100 investors from 20 countries will attend, controlling over $100 billion in assets. They're hunting for the next breakthrough companies that can scale across borders.

The investors include Manhattan Ventures from the US, Molten Ventures from the UK, Gobi Partners from Malaysia, and funds from the UAE and Qatar. Their presence signals growing confidence in Türkiye's tech ecosystem.

Access to capital remains challenging, with 71% of Turkish entrepreneurs citing financing as a barrier. Events like this help close that gap by putting founders and funders in the same room.

"Our ambition is to prove an AI-first company can be built in Türkiye and compete globally," said Nurettin Şendoğan, COO of Workiom.

Istanbul's geographic position makes it a natural meeting point for innovators from three continents, and the city is using that advantage to build something special.
